A YOUNG MOUNTAINEER ARRIVES AT LOS PICOS
In the early 1970s, Gonzalo Zamora began his journey in Picos de Europa. Driven by the challenge and inspired by the possibility of someday climbing these great mountains, he settled in Cahecho, a small village in Liébana Valley. There, he started a mountain livestock farm and spent over a decade balancing the care of his cows and goats with his passion for climbing.
A PROFESSIONAL MOUNTAIN GUIDE
After years of mountain experience, Gonzalo turned his passion into his profession, becoming one of the first Mountain Guides of Picos de Europa. This allowed him to lead countless guided ascents to iconic peaks like Naranjo de Bulnes, Horcados Rojos, El Jisu… as well as the first descents of canyons such as Corvera, Navedo, or Dobra.
THE RISE OF ACTIVE TOURISM
During this decade, there was a growing interest in nature activities beyond climbing, such as canyoning, snowshoeing, hiking, and the first multi-day treks around Picos de Europa. This, combined with Gonzalo's experience as a Mountain Guide, led him to the idea of creating an outdoor adventure company that offered all these possibilities.
POTES AVENTURA IS BORN
Potes Aventura was founded, initially under the name "Vértigo". It was one of the first companies in Liébana Valley to offer adventure activities in nature and the only one that has remained active since then.
GENERATIONAL CHANGE
Fernando Zamora took over the management of Vértigo from his father after completing his professional training, and the company adopted the name "Potes Aventura".
Fernando has progressed in the profession he learned from his father to the highest level, establishing himself as an UIAGM International High Mountain Guide, placing him in a very select group of Mountain Guides in Spain. He is also a reference in mountaineering and climbing in Picos de Europa and in training in progression and safety techniques for future guides and rescue groups (+INFO).
+20 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
Today, Potes Aventura is the most experienced adventure guide company in Liébana Valley for activities such as canyoning or via ferratas. It has a team of professional Mountain Guides certified by the Ministry of Education, led by Fernando Zamora, who develop these activities under two guiding principles: the safety of their participants and the enjoyment of the experience. Thanks to their professionalism, over the years, hundreds of people have been able to experience an adventure in Picos de Europa, combining fun with maximum safety.

We had a great afternoon with our kids under the expert guidance of guide Eduardo. I can 100% recommend this activity for a family with children. Our youngest is eight but was able to join the canyoning without any difficulty. Guide Eduardo was very kind to our children, patient, explained everything very well ... the nature of the canyon is overwhelmingly beautiful and it is also very adventurous for children. At no point did we find it dangerous and that was thanks to Eduardo's expert guidance! Highly recommended!

We (family of 4 with 2 teenage boys) enjoyed the Via Ferrata and canyoning with Potes Aventura. The guides were highly knowledgeable, experienced, and very enthusiastic. Excellent equipment and organization. Highly recommend.
