Course aimed at people who, regardless of age and fitness, want to learn this sport, or for those who have already started and want to learn basic techniques of safety and progression or learn more advanced techniques in mountain routes that requiring the use of safety equipment. 

Since ancient times, due to their concern, the man has faced great mountains, reaching heights that were unthinkable. All this to enjoy the feeling of victory and self-realization and to see the world under your feet. Today, mountaineering has evolved so much that it has significantly reduced the risk of its performance, as long as we know the safety and progression techniques  and have developed a global vision that allows us to anticipate events and take appropriate decisions.

Material we use*: 

  • Helmet
  • Safety harness
  • Rope
  • Mountain clothing
  • Safety material(Insurer-descender, carabiners …)

Participants should bring this material: crampons, ice ax classical, rigid or semi-rigid boots, winter trousers, outerwear, gaiters, waterproof and breathable jacket, hat, gloves (two pairs), sunglasses, sunscreen, food and water.

Location: surroundings of Potes and Picos de Europa (Liebana Valley) or Campoo area.

We offer mountaineering courses at three levels: 1.Basic  2.Medium  3.Advanced

 

Basic mountaineering course:

-Initiate contact with the high mountain terrain winter to be able to perform simple fluently itineraries involving the proper handling of crampons and ice ax.

-Knowledge and use of basic climbing material. 

 

-Knowledge and use of basic mountaineering equipment (ice ax, crampons …).

-Introduction to the knowledge and use of basic climbing equipment.

-Knowledge of the winter environment and its risks.

-Security-maneuvers in climbs and falls.

-Review of equipment and material; hone.

-Knowledge of winter mountain. Subjective hazards caused by the mountaineer himself: material placement and prevention of snags. 

-Correct choice of the itinerary.

-Time to leave and return in winter activities: planning winter outings and logistics. 

-Making an itinerary or a climb where all lessons learned are used. 

-Rapel to save a delicate downhill sections: introduction to specific safety equipment (link up here with the Medium Mountaineering Course)

-Trace High Mountain itineraries: learn to read and interpret the mountain snowpack.

-Evaluation the end of the day, collecting impressions and close the Basic Mountaineering Course.

 

Medium mountaineering course:

-Ability to perform independently winter high mountain routes, which should be used occasionally the rope to ensure, rappel or save little difficult sections. 

-Knowledge and use of climbing material and insurance in rock and snow.

 

-Knowledge and use of mountaineering equipment (ice ax, crampons, rope, insurer-descender…)

-Knowledge and use of climbing material in rock and snow.

-Knowledge of the high mountain in winter and objective dangers.

-Anchor in rock and snow.

-Assurance Systems in rock and snow.

 

-Review Equipment and material; hone.

-Profundización on knowledge of the high mountain winter and objective dangers

-Climbing and Mountaineering material: harness, ropes, carabiners, insurer-descender and slings. Resistance of climbing material and compulsory endorsement.

-Main knots: roping, fisherman’s knot and double fisherman’s knot,  flat knot, dynamic, machard bidirectional self-locking.

-Abseiling practises with self-locking knot. 

-Anchor in snow: anchor, horizontal ax and T.

-Elemental anchors in rock: bridges, stoppers and friends.

-Systems of securing the first and second rope, both rock and snow.

Summary end of the day and collecting impressions.

 

-Review of equipment and material; hone.

-Management ascent with some difficulty risk. 

-Reviewing assurance maneuvers. Sequence to communicate with our fellow climbing a flight or long.

-Elementary nivology and avalanche prevention (second part)

-Making an itinerary or single corridor where you implement the lessons and the students need to make sure in short sections by themselves, placing anchors in rock  or snow.

-Some examples of ascents with occasional stretches of assurance (the choice depends on the level of students in the course)

Advance mountaineering course:

-Improving assurance techniques in itineraries and several long corridors.

-Improving climbing techniques in rock, snow and ice with specific equipment. 

 

-Knowledge and use of mountaineering equipment (ice ax, crampons, rope, insurer-descender, tapes …).

-Knowledge and use of rock and snow climbing.

-Knowledge and use of meetings in snow and ice.

-Basic knowledge of self-rescue and roping.

-Sketches and descriptions interpretation.

 

-Review of equipment and material; preparation.

-Main knots: review of previous levels knots (clove hitch knot and built knot).

-Assembly meetings on snow and ice.

-Assurance systems the first and second in rope. The significance of the fall factor. 

-Initiation in ax-wheel drive: ice anchors.

-Communication with the partner to climb a route.

-Steps to climb with meetings (rope placement, coordination, etc …).

-Sketches and descriptions interpretation. Difficulties graduation.

-Resumen final de la jornada y recogida de impresiones.

 

-Review of equipment and material; preparation.

-Risk management in medium difficult climbs.

-Optimization climbing technique multi-pitch routes: assurance in long and joint climbing.

-Making varied climbing route with some small ice projection. 

-Examples of ascents to the final activity of the course (choose one depending on conditions).

-Basic Notions of roping and self-rescue for walking on glaciers.

-Summary end of the day and collecting impressions and close the Advanced Mountaineering Course.

Our guides and teachers are qualified members of the Spanish Association of Mountain Guides (AEGM), with degree of high mountain, canyoning and skiing (+info)
