The Picu Urriellu, also known as Naranjo de Bulnes, is a vertical tower which is isolated on all its sides from the rest of the surrounding mountains. For this reason, you can not ascend to the summit without the use of climbing techniques.

The route “Directa de los Martinez” also known as “Naranjo´s South,” on the south side, with 250 meters in length, is the easiest route of ascent (high graduation IV +) and also one of the most beautiful by the quality and peculiarity of their rock.

It is a climbing where the greatest difficulties are in the first 15-20m of the route. After this stretch, as we climb, the difficulty descend and the famous “canalizos” are apearing. They are gorges produced in the rock by the water over the years, very nice and easy to climb.

It’s a climb that can make people with no previous climbing experience, but it is necessary to have some familiarity with the surroundings, because it is important to be used to get around mountain terrains to face this climb.

The most recommended way to make the ascent to the Picu Urriellu is in two days because the approach to the base of the wall takes more than four hours. Urriellu shelter  is usually the meeting point.
