The Picu Uriellu, also known as Naranjo de Bulnes, is undoubtedly one of the most emblematic peaks in Spain. Its location in the heart of the Picos de Europa and the inaccessibility of its summit makes it a very demanded peak for Spanish climbers and mountaineers.

At its west side there are some of the hardest routes in the world, “Orbayu”, so it´s common to find in the shelter hikers of all nationalities searching overcoming this vertical wall about 600 m.

But one of the great advantages of this summit is the existence of easy ascent routes that allow less accustomed to climbing to arrive to the top and to enjoy this unique moment on the Naranjo de Bulnes summit, a historic place.

Equipment that we will use:

Activity duration: 2 days (we will sleep at the shelter Urriellu).

Day 1: We will arrive from the hill called Pandébano (Sotres) to the Urriellu shelter (How arrive?). It will take us about 3 hours walking along a well-marked road with about 6km of length and 900m of altitude. Normally the shelter is the meeting point. Here will be given at the participants some technical explanations and we will reply all the questions that you could have.

Day 2: We will leave early to the road and we will start climbing. Once at the summit, when we have returned to the base of the wall, we will start walking back to the car by the same road as we climbed the day before.

Ascents (routes):

The itinerary called “Directa de los Martínez” (+info), located on the south side of the Naranjo de Bulnes, is a relatively short route (150m) and easy but very amazing.
